Innovation is often understood as 'product innovation', but there are many other ways in which a company can innovate. The average pharmaceutical company is a 'me-too' company: structures, processes and business models have not only remained largely unchanged for many years, but also look pretty similar to everybody else's.

Injecting innovation at all levels is the greatest challenge pharmaceutical companies face. There are many internal barriers that block the path and companies may also need to find new skills and competencies, perhaps 'new kinds of people'.

In his presentation, 'The quest for innovation in pharmaceutical companies', Dr Herrero will discuss these different paths to innovation and explore the new kinds of people companies need to reach extraordinary business success.
