Team Alignment
Human Collaboration: We argue that collaboration is the true competitive advantage for the new era. In light of this, we help clients to improve the effectiveness of internal and external collaborations by developing processes, structures and behaviours most suited to their needs.

Our position:
Team building can be achieved in many ways, but crossing rivers, building bridges in the forest or climbing mountains is something that we won't be able to help you do.
Aligning people in teams is not about convincing them about the merits of doing something by appealing to their common sense.
It is about generating a deep understanding of the differences between all of us in the way we prefer to work and the way we make decisions or manage relationships. It's about creating a common understanding, a common sense of purpose and a shared commitment to action. Our programmes and interventions cut across what is irrelevant and focus on what can create a fast alignment, whether in M&A mode, during internal restructuring, or simply in the development of existing teams. | |
Team Alignment is a programme that quickly creates a common sense of purpose and shared commitment to action. A powerful five-step process - contextual agreement, alignment of working styles, team chartering, rules of the game and non-negotiable behaviours - increases the effectiveness of the team regardless of its seniority or functionality.
The biggest challenges when improving team alignment and integrating multiple teams arise from four different areas:
- Lack of awareness of individual working preferences
- Lack of clarity of purpose
- Unclear 'rules of the game'
- Lack of a sense of belonging
The Team Alignment programme takes a pragmatic, hands-on approach to getting a new team to work effectively together much faster than standard approaches. Rather than waiting for the strategy and cultures to be decided upon or cascaded down, we start from the bottom up with the consideration of this very practical question:
"How will you and I work together effectively tomorrow?'"
We utilize a specialised implementation strategy that takes companies beyond simple definitions and toward practical ways to make the team work effectively together from day one. Our five-step methodology focuses on the following:
- Working preferences - We examine the ways in which people interact, handle information, make decisions and organise themselves, in order to determine individual preferences for working together.
- Team map - Using the working preferences, we create a team map and examine the strengths/weaknesses of the team in performing the 8 vital tasks needed for producing the team's 'product'.
- Team charter - This is a very practical exercise that establishes unity of vision and purpose, as well as strong alignment of preferences and teamwork toward established goals.
- Behavioural change - The team defines, articulates and agrees on new, common, non-negotiable behaviours for the team.
- New project anatomy - A map of a potential (or existing) project is created using an alignment of the previous steps with organisation strategy, creating a practical approach for getting the job done.
The benefits of this programme are for both individuals and teams, giving them knowledge and confidence to work easily within the new environment by creating shared, actionable commitments. The added benefit for companies is in ensuring the continuity of on-going operations and the rapid alignment of multiple groups for long-term success.
